A Saab 9-5 SC that cant be saved…

August 5, 2013 in News

A few days ago a story about a 2012 9-5 SportsCombi located at the scrap yard Skrotfrag in Angered outside Gothenburg circulated around the net. There were huge cry outs to save the car and that it was such a waste to have this rare car being scrapped! I of course share in that emotion but its easy to say and difficult to do. But some people have tried, Markus Lafrentz, being a huge SC lover actually tried to buy the car, the reply he got was that a contract has been made up with the bankruptcy administrators that these cars have to be scrapped and that there is NO chance to buy it from the scrapyard.

The way to go about saving this car is to talk to the bankruptcy lawyers, I made a call to a contact at NEVS since they have a good relationship to the administrators, to see if NEVS could buy it and then put it in the museum perhaps? My contact at NEVS told me that he would look into it right away!

Not only has a number of 9-5 SC’s already been scrapped by the administrators, also a number of the Jason Castriota 9-3 Phoenix cars have seen their life come to an end. Whats also interesting is that some of the 9-5 SC’s were registered as Holden cars.

Stay tuned, more to come!

Update from SaabsUnited. Basically, the cars had undergone heavy testing until something broke. After the testing, five of the cars were deemed unsafe. Those are the ones that ended up being scrapped.

Maybe a complete tear down to the shell and rebuild it from the ground up.

Would love to buy one at scrap value ($300 according to insurance company here) to strip, cage , and build a racecar 8-)
